The surviving tower of the Hop-o'-Nose Knitting Mill is a striking industrial relic, a lone brick structure rising above a rubble-strewn lot filled with demolition debris from the 1881 building it once anchored. The contrast between the standing tower and the scattered brickwork below gives you a lot to work with compositionally; try framing the tower against the sky with debris in the foreground to emphasize the sense of decay and passing time. A wide-angle lens lets you capture both the tower and the surrounding chaos in one frame, while a longer focal length isolates weathered brick details and textures. Overcast light works especially well here, reducing harsh shadows and bringing out the warmth of aged brick. The site is accessible from West Main Street, and you have room to move around the lot to find your angle. (Catskill, New York, United States)
