Isola Tiberina is a small boat-shaped island sitting in the middle of the Tiber River, connected to both banks by ancient Roman bridges that make for strong compositional anchors. The island's worn travertine stone, the medieval tower of San Bartolomeo, and the gentle curve of the river give you layered textures and depth that reward careful framing. From the riverbanks, use the Ponte Fabricio or Ponte Cestio as leading lines drawing the eye toward the island, particularly effective with a wider lens in the 24 to 35mm range. The blue hour just after sunset is ideal, when warm lamplight reflects on the water and the sky still holds color. Early morning keeps crowds off the bridges and gives you clean shots. Shooting from the Lungotevere embankment paths on either side lets you find low angles that emphasize the island's striking elongated silhouette against the sky. (Rome, Lazio, Italy)
