Jekyll Island Amphitheater - Bird Watching Area
Through a sea of Spanish moss in a forest just north of the firehouse on Stable Road is a hidden wooden amphitheater. More than 40 years ago, its 2,000 seats were filled with residents and tourists watching popular musicals as wood storks soared overhead and stars lit the stage. Now the old Amphitheater Area is a peaceful sanctuary for birdwatching and wildlife photography. The coastal habitat, including marshes and tidal creeks, provides a rich environment for a variety of bird species. Photographers can capture the grace of wading birds, the beauty of shorebirds, and the moments of flight as these feathered creatures interact with their natural surroundings.
