John's Lane Church, formally the Church of SS Augustine and John, is one of Dublin's most striking Gothic Revival buildings, its soaring 200-foot sandstone spire dominating the skyline along Thomas Street. The exterior is rich with carved detail, pointed arches, and textured stonework that rewards close-up shots as much as wide establishing frames. Shoot from across the street to capture the full height of the spire, or move in tight with a longer lens to isolate the decorative sculpture work around the entrance. Inside, the ornate altar, stained glass windows, and vaulted ceiling offer strong compositions, especially when light streams through the windows on a bright morning. Overcast days work well outside by softening shadows on the detailed stonework. A wide-angle lens, around 16-24mm, handles the interior well, while a standard zoom gives you flexibility on the street. Entry to the church is free during opening hours. (Dublin, Ireland)
