Kolgrafarfjördur Viewpoint
Perched along Route 54 on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, this roadside viewpoint gives you a sweeping look down the length of Kolgrafarfjördur, a narrow fjord-like inlet flanked by steep, dramatic mountains that reflect beautifully in the calm water below. The observation deck is compact but well-positioned, making it easy to set up a wide or standard zoom and work the scene without much movement needed. Shoot from the railing looking straight down the inlet to compress the mountains on either side, or angle slightly to include the foreground shoreline for depth. Overcast days actually work well here, softening shadows and making the greens and grays pop; golden hour light raking across the mountain faces adds strong texture. The viewpoint is directly off the road with easy pull-off parking, so it works well as a quick stop on a longer drive around the peninsula. A 24-70mm covers most compositions comfortably.
