Lake Agnes
Perched at 2,135 meters in the Canadian Rockies, Lake Agnes is a glacially carved alpine lake ringed by sheer cliff faces and jagged peaks that reflect beautifully in calm morning water. The teahouse sitting at the lake's edge gives you a classic foreground element, while the surrounding cirque of rock walls creates natural framing from nearly any angle you choose. Shoot from the main shoreline looking toward the waterfall at the far end for a strong compositional anchor, or work the eastern bank to incorporate both the teahouse and the dramatic ridgeline above. Early morning gives you the best chance of still water and soft light before hikers arrive, though overcast days also work well by reducing harsh contrast on the bright rock faces. A wide angle lens in the 16 to 24mm range handles the sweeping scene well. Access requires a 3.4 kilometer hike from Lake Louise with around 400 meters of elevation gain, so plan for at least an hour up. (Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada)
