Pura Luhur Batukaru is one of Bali's most sacred and atmospheric temples, set deep in the rainforest on the slopes of Mount Batukaru, surrounded by mist, towering trees, and the sound of running water. Unlike the busier coastal temples, this one feels genuinely remote and intimate, with moss-covered shrines, multi-tiered merus draped in black and white cloth, and lush garden pools that reflect the surrounding jungle. Shoot from low angles to emphasize the layered pagoda rooftops against the forest canopy, or use the garden pathways and water features as leading lines into the frame. A wide to mid-range lens works well here, though a telephoto lets you isolate individual shrines and architectural details. Morning is the best time to visit, when mist drifts through the trees and the light is soft and diffused. Dress respectfully and bring a sarong, as one is required to enter the temple grounds.
