Lawa'i Bay
Lawa'i Bay is a secluded crescent of turquoise water tucked against the lush green cliffs of Kauai's south shore, backed by the dense tropical foliage of Allerton Garden. The bay's vivid color and dramatic hillside setting make it one of the most painterly coastal scenes on the island. From a kayak, you can position yourself just offshore to frame the full sweep of the bay, with the garden's greenery reflecting in the calm water. Early morning is ideal when the light is soft and the surface is glassy before the trade winds pick up. A wide angle lens works well to capture both the bay and the surrounding cliffs in one shot. Since land access requires crossing private property, paddling in from Kukuiula Small Boat Harbor to the east is your best option and gives you flexibility to explore different angles on the water.
