Leaning Tower of Niles

Standing at half the scale of its famous Italian counterpart, this quirky concrete replica leans at the same angle as the original and sits alongside a reflecting pool that gives you one of the best compositional opportunities on site. Shoot from the far end of the pool to capture the tower's reflection with its tilt mirrored in the still water, or get low and close to exaggerate the lean against the sky. Overcast days work well here by softening shadows and keeping the white concrete from blowing out, though golden hour light adds warmth and dimension to the facade. A wide to standard zoom in the 24-50mm range handles most angles comfortably. The tower is set in a quiet suburban park with open surroundings, so you have room to back up and frame the full structure without obstruction. Street parking is available nearby and access is straightforward. (Niles, Illinois, United States)
