Uptown Dot King Mural

Uptown Dot King is an eye catching mural on the east wall of the old Wilson Men's Hotel, now an apartment building, at 1124 West Wilson Avenue in Chicago. Joe Miller and Sunni DiLuzio painted it in 2021 during Uptown Art Week. They sprayed painted brightly coloured oversized dots using empty paint cans as stencils, then let house paint run down the wall in streaks. It sits right against the Red Line tracks, and Miller created the mural to be enjoyed from a moving train. The Wilson station platform has the cleanest full view, and if you are lucky (patient) enough to catch a southbound train in the frame it really completes the whole vision of this mural. From the sidewalk on Wilson Avenue you can shoot along the wall and let the dots stack up toward the tracks. The wall is tall, so expect to tilt up. Morning light hits it straight on and by late afternoon the wall is in shade, which mutes the colours but clears the glare. Shooting from the street sides is free, but if you want to shoot from the platforms you will needs pay the fare. (Chicago, Illinois, United States)
