The underside of the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge offers a dramatic industrial composition where the steel arch structure frames the Niagara River gorge below. Getting down to the riverbank level on either the American or Canadian side gives you a low vantage point to shoot upward along the arch, with the curved steel members converging toward the center span and the gorge walls adding depth on either side. Overcast days work particularly well here because the diffused light reduces harsh shadows in the bridge structure and brings out the texture of the steel and stone. A wide-angle lens lets you exaggerate the perspective and emphasize the arch overhead, while a longer focal length can isolate details of the ironwork against the sky or river. The Canadian side near Queenston tends to offer slightly better access to the riverbank, so start there if you are unsure which approach suits your composition. (Queenston, Ontario, Canada)
