Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral is a unique modernist structure that dominates the city’s skyline with its soaring circular design and dramatic lantern tower. Completed in 1967, this Roman Catholic cathedral offers photographers a bold mix of brutalist concrete and stained glass, with soaring lines and geometric symmetry ideal for both wide-angle and abstract architectural shots. The interior is equally photogenic, bathed in multicoloured light filtered through the towering stained glass crown. Best photographed during sunrise or sunset for dynamic shadows and contrasts, the cathedral also provides opportunities for detail-oriented compositions of its sculptural features and contemporary religious art. Located at the top of Mount Pleasant, it’s easily accessible from central Liverpool and offers panoramic city views from its surrounding steps. (Liverpool, England, United Kingdom)
