Manhattan Bridge Pedestrian Path

The Manhattan Bridge pedestrian path gives you one of the most layered architectural compositions in New York City, combining steel girders, suspension cables, and sweeping views of the East River, Brooklyn Bridge, and the Lower Manhattan skyline all in one frame. The Brooklyn-side entrance is the most popular starting point, where you can shoot through the bridge's massive archway with the skyline centered in the distance; a wide-angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well here to capture the full depth of the structure. The path also rewards longer focal lengths for compressing the cables against the city backdrop. Shoot at blue hour or shortly after sunrise for soft, directional light with minimal crowds. Subway trains run on the adjacent track, so timing a long exposure to blur one through the frame adds motion and scale. Access the path via the staircase at the base of the bridge on either side.
