Manly Beach

Manly Beach is a sweeping arc of golden sand on Sydney's Northern Beaches, framed by Norfolk Island pines and the Pacific Ocean, making it one of the most visually compelling beaches in Australia. At sunrise, soft warm light rakes across the sand from the east, illuminating the waves and the iconic pine-lined promenade with almost no crowds present. You can work the beach from multiple angles: shoot south along the shoreline toward the headland for a strong leading line, wade into the shallow shore break to capture surfers with the wave face behind them, or pull back to the promenade for a wider environmental shot that includes the trees. A 24-70mm lens covers most situations here, though a longer focal length lets you compress the waves and distant figures. Parking near the Corso or arriving by ferry from Circular Quay are both practical options. (Manly, New South Wales, Australia)
