Reef Beach is a secluded sandy cove tucked inside Sydney Harbour National Park, where calm turquoise water, sandstone outcrops, and surrounding bushland come together in a compact and photogenic scene. The beach is small enough that a wide angle lens lets you take in the full sweep of the cove in a single frame, while a longer focal length pulls in the detail of the harbour beyond and the distant headlands. A timber boardwalk runs along the edge of the beach and works well as a leading line drawing the eye through the frame toward the water. Morning light is your best bet here, when the sun rises over the harbour and casts warm, direct light into the cove without harsh shadows. The beach is reached by a short bush track, so arrive early to have the scene to yourself before day visitors arrive. Low tide opens up more of the sandy foreshore and gives you extra room to work with. (Balgowlah Heights, New South Wales, Australia)
