Marine Building
The Marine Building is one of North America's finest Art Deco skyscrapers, completed in 1930 and covered in extraordinary marine-themed terracotta reliefs including sea creatures, ships, and stylized waves that reward close inspection with a macro or standard lens. For exterior shots, position yourself across Burrard Street to capture the full facade, or move in tight to isolate the ornate detailing around the entrance arch. The building faces roughly east, so morning light catches the front elevation beautifully, while overcast days are ideal for bringing out the rich earth tones of the terracotta without harsh shadows. Step inside to photograph the stunning lobby, with its vaulted ceiling, intricate tilework, and warm amber tones; a wide-angle lens works well here. The lobby is generally accessible during business hours on weekdays, so plan accordingly and be respectful of the working environment. (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
