Mile Rock Beach
Mile Rock Beach is a small, rugged cove tucked below the cliffs of Lands End, offering one of the more unusual and less crowded angles on the Golden Gate Bridge. From the rocky shoreline, you can frame the bridge to the southeast with dramatic foreground interest from the tide pools, kelp-covered rocks, and wave-smoothed boulders. Sunset is the prime time to shoot here, as the light falls directly on the bridge and colors the sky above the Pacific. Low tide opens up more of the beach and gives you better access to the rocks for foreground compositions; check tide charts before heading down. The trail down from Lands End is steep and uneven, so wear solid footwear. A wide-angle lens works well to pull in the rocks, water, and bridge together in a single frame.
