Mine Kill Falls
Mine Kill Falls drops roughly 80 feet through a tight, rocky gorge in Mine Kill State Park, making it one of the more dramatic cascades in the Catskills region. You have two distinct vantage points to work with: an upper overlook platform that lets you shoot down into the gorge and frame the full drop with the canyon walls as natural borders, and a lower trail that brings you close to the base for a more immersive, upward-looking composition. A wide-angle lens works well at the bottom to capture both the falls and the surrounding rock walls, while a short telephoto helps isolate the upper tier from the overlook. Overcast days are ideal here since the gorge is shaded and soft diffused light eliminates harsh contrast on the water. A slower shutter speed will smooth the flow nicely, so bring a tripod. The trails are well-maintained and accessible for most fitness levels. (Mine Kill State Park, New York, United States)
