Montreal Stock Exchange
The former Montreal Stock Exchange, now home to the Centaur Theatre, is a striking Beaux-Arts building that stands out sharply against the surrounding streets of Old Montreal. The ornate facade, with its heavy columns, arched windows, and detailed stonework, rewards patient observation and careful framing. You get strong results by positioning yourself across Saint-François-Xavier Street to capture the full symmetry of the front elevation, using a wide to standard focal length to keep the proportions honest. Midday light can be harsh but works well here because the south-facing facade stays evenly lit without deep shadows cutting across the columns. Early morning gives you quieter streets and softer contrast if you prefer a cleaner shot without pedestrians. A tilt-shift or careful vertical correction in post helps keep the lines straight when shooting from street level. (Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
