Monument Cove
Monument Cove is a striking coastal inlet in Acadia National Park, best known for a tall granite sea stack rising just offshore that serves as an instant focal point for compositions. You can shoot from the boulder-strewn shoreline at water level, framing the sea stack against the open Atlantic, or pull back to capture the broader cove with its pink granite walls and dark evergreen treeline. Low tide gives you more foreground to work with, letting you use the jumbled rocks and tidal pools as leading elements into the frame. Sunrise is the prime time here, with warm light hitting the granite and long shadows adding depth and texture. A wide angle lens works well for dramatic foreground-to-sky compositions, though a short telephoto lets you isolate the sea stack cleanly. Parking is available directly on Park Loop Road with a short easy walk down to the shore. (Acadia National Park, Maine, United States)
