Moody Church
Moody Church is a massive Romanesque Revival landmark on the north edge of Lincoln Park, its terracotta dome and arched facade making it one of the more striking church exteriors in Chicago. From the sidewalk along North Clark Street, you can get a wide establishing shot that captures the full sweep of the entrance arcade and the dome rising behind it; a wide-angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well here to take in the scale without excessive distortion. Step back toward the park for a slightly elevated, more compressed view using a 35mm or 50mm. Overcast days are ideal since the building faces multiple directions and harsh sun creates uneven shadows across the stonework. Early morning on weekdays keeps foot traffic low and gives you clean foreground space. The surrounding streets offer interesting detail shots of the arched windows and carved stonework up close.
