Munken is a dramatic peak in the southern Lofoten Islands, rising steeply above a landscape of dark lakes, jagged ridgelines, and the open sea. The summit rewards patient photographers with sweeping 360-degree views that compress the iconic Lofoten topography into a single frame. From the top, you can shoot down toward the glassy lakes below with rocky peaks layered behind them, or turn toward the coast to capture the ocean cutting between the islands. A wide-angle lens works well for the full panoramic sweep, while a short telephoto lets you compress the distant mountain ridges. The hike is strenuous and requires solid footwear, but the nearby Munkebu hut offers an overnight base so you can be on the summit for the golden hour light that lingers late in summer or catches the peaks at dawn. Arrive early or stay the night to avoid shooting in harsh midday light. (Sørvågen, Lofoten Islands, Norway)
