Niagara Mohawk Building
The Niagara Mohawk Building is one of the finest Art Deco skyscrapers in the northeastern United States, clad in gleaming stainless steel and featuring a dramatic winged figure at its crown that catches light beautifully at almost any hour. Position yourself on Erie Boulevard for a straight-on facade shot, or move to the corner of Erie and Franklin to capture the angular geometry and vertical lines that make this building so distinctive. A wide-angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well for emphasizing the soaring verticality, while a longer focal length lets you isolate the ornamental metalwork and the Mercury-like sculpture at the top. Overcast days soften the contrast and bring out the silver tones of the stainless steel cladding, but golden hour light creates incredible warmth against the metalwork. Street parking is generally available nearby, and the surrounding sidewalks give you plenty of room to compose. (Syracuse, New York, United States)
