Sealed beneath City Hall Park since 1945, this abandoned station is one of the most architecturally striking underground spaces in New York City, featuring Guastavino tile vaulting, graceful arched ceilings, brass chandeliers, and skylights that filter natural light down from street level. Your best compositions lean into the station's dramatic curve, using the tracks and platform edge as leading lines that pull the eye through the arched bays. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well for capturing the full sweep of the vaulted ceiling, while a longer focal length isolates the chandelier details against the tilework. Light inside is dim and warm, so bring a fast lens or plan to shoot on a tripod.
