Piazza del Popolo
Piazza del Popolo is a large historic square, located at the northern edge of the city centre where travelers once entered through Porta del Popolo. At its centre stands one of Rome’s oldest obelisks, originally brought from Egypt and later placed here as a focal point of the square. The layout dates largely to the 19th century, with a broad, open design that gives the space a sense of scale compared to many tighter Roman piazzas. At the southern end, the twin churches of Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria in Montesanto frame the entrance to Via del Corso. The square is also bordered by fountains and steps leading up to the Pincian Hill, which offers elevated views back over the piazza. The open layout and clear sight lines make it easy to take in the full scene from multiple angles throughout the day. (Rome, Italy)
