The Queen Victoria Building is a stunning Romanesque Revival shopping arcade occupying an entire city block, with a grand central dome, intricate mosaic tile floors, stained glass windows, and ornate ironwork that reward photographers at every turn. Inside, shoot from the upper gallery levels looking down to compress the symmetrical floor patterns and capture the full sweep of the interior, or position yourself beneath the central dome and shoot upward with a wide angle lens to emphasize the scale and detail of the glasswork. The warm amber tones of the interior lighting make this a rewarding shoot regardless of weather, though overcast days reduce harsh shadows from the skylights. A 16-35mm or equivalent wide angle lens works best for the interiors, while a longer focal length pulls in the facade detail from street level outside. Visit early on weekday mornings before crowds build to keep the floor compositions clean. (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)
