Australia Square Tower
Australia Square Tower is a modernist cylindrical skyscraper completed in 1967, designed by Harry Seidler, and widely considered one of the finest examples of mid-century architecture in the country. The circular form makes it a compelling subject from almost any angle, but the most interesting compositions come from shooting upward from the base to emphasize the vertical lines and curved facade, or stepping back to frame the full tower against the Sydney CBD skyline. The open plaza at ground level gives you room to work with wide-angle and standard focal lengths, while a longer lens lets you isolate the repeating horizontal bands of the exterior. Overcast days reduce harsh shadows on the curved surface and bring out the texture of the concrete, though golden hour light raking across the facade adds depth. The plaza is publicly accessible and easy to navigate on foot. (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)
