Angel Place is a narrow laneway in central Sydney where dozens of empty gilded birdcages hang suspended overhead, creating one of the city's most striking urban installations. The cages stretch the full length of the alley, giving you a natural tunnel composition that works beautifully with a wide-angle lens to exaggerate the perspective and depth. Shoot from low, pointing upward to fill the frame with the cages against the sky, or position yourself at one end of the laneway and use the hanging forms as leading lines drawing the eye through the scene. Overcast days soften the light and reduce harsh shadows between the cages, though blue hour gives the warm glow of the surrounding buildings a nice contrast against the darkening sky above. The laneway is pedestrian-only and easy to access off George Street; early morning on weekdays gives you the best chance of having it to yourself. (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)
