About Rail Bridge over the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal
The rail bridge at Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue is a photogenic steel truss carrying track over the canal and across the channel toward Île Perrot. Parc Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue runs along the strip of land beside it, so you can get underneath and alongside the ironwork without going near the track. Shooting along the underside lets the panels repeat away from you in a long diagonal line creating a unique geometric flow within your compositions. The far bank gives a whole different feel to your composition adding moored boats on the canal wall with the lock a short way upstream. Evening is the ideal time to aim to be here since the bridge runs southwest and the sun drops in behind the trusses. Trains still use this line, so stay off the track but your patience may be rewarded with some unique long exposures if you stay in the area long enough. The Galipeault highway bridge runs parallel just to the east, and its concrete deck contrasting against the old steel is worth finding an angle that lines both up.
