Reestraat Canal View

Reestraat Canal View - Photo by minashafizade_1 / 1

This narrow cross-street in the Jordaan neighborhood gives you one of Amsterdam's most satisfying canal compositions, where the Prinsengracht stretches out ahead of you with Westerkerk's distinctive crown spire anchoring the background. Stand at the edge of Reestraat where it meets the canal and shoot straight down the waterway to let the houseboats, arched bridges, and tree-lined banks form natural layers of depth. A slightly longer focal length, something in the 50 to 85mm range, helps compress the scene and bring the church tower closer into the frame. Early morning is ideal here, when the light is soft, the streets are quiet, and the canal surface is calm enough to catch clean reflections. If you visit in spring, the trees along the canal add a green canopy that frames the spire beautifully. The spot is easy to reach on foot from the Jordaan and requires no special access.
