Rue Stanley

Rue Stanley is a narrow downtown street that cuts through the heart of Montreal, offering a natural tunnel of glass towers and older stone facades that compress beautifully into a single frame. The street's slight downhill grade and tight canyon geometry make it ideal for leading-line compositions, especially looking north or south toward the vanishing point. Overcast days work particularly well here, softening harsh shadows between the buildings and letting architectural details read clearly. Early morning gives you the cleanest shots with minimal foot traffic and occasional mist hanging between the towers. A wide-angle lens in the 16-35mm range helps capture the full height of the surrounding buildings, while a longer focal length compresses the layers of architecture further down the street. Street level is your main vantage point, so position yourself at an intersection to add depth and frame the corridor against the sky. (Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
