Windsor Station

Built in 1889, Windsor Station is a striking Romanesque Revival landmark in downtown Montreal, with its rough-cut grey stone facade, arched windows, and turrets offering rich architectural detail for close-up and wide compositions alike. Outside, position yourself across the street to capture the full breadth of the building against the sky, or move in tight to isolate the carved stonework and ornate archways with a longer focal length. Inside, the grand hall rewards a wide-angle lens, especially when you angle upward to emphasize the vaulted ceilings and iron detailing. Overcast days work particularly well here since the diffuse light brings out the texture of the stone without harsh shadows. The station sits directly beside the Bell Centre, so you can incorporate the contrast between the historic structure and the modern arena in wider frames. Access is straightforward and the building is open during regular business hours. (Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
