City View
This rooftop vantage point along Boulevard René-Lévesque West puts you high above downtown Montreal with a sweeping panoramic view of the city skyline, the St. Lawrence River in the distance, and the dense urban grid stretching out below. The elevated perspective is ideal for wide-angle shots that capture the full skyline, but a short telephoto lens works well for compressing layers of buildings and picking out architectural details like the distinctive stepped crown of Place Ville Marie. Golden hour and blue hour are the strongest times to shoot here, when the city lights begin to glow against a deep sky. Keep in mind that access is not guaranteed to the general public, so contact the building management in advance to arrange permission before making the trip. A tripod is worth bringing for low-light exposures once the sun drops. (Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
