Sabbath Day Point Overlook

Sabbath Day Point Overlook - Photo by Terry Branham1 / 1

Sabbath Day Point Overlook sits along the western shore of Lake George, offering a sweeping elevated view down the length of this narrow, island-dotted Adirondack lake. The scene draws the eye naturally along the water, with forested ridgelines framing both sides and the lake stretching deep into the distance. Try positioning yourself to use the shoreline as a leading line pulling the viewer into the frame, or compress the layers of ridges with a telephoto lens for a more dramatic, stacked look. Early morning is ideal when mist often rises off the water and the light is soft and directional; golden hour in the evening also works well with warm tones reflecting off the lake surface. The overlook is roadside and accessible directly from Lake Shore Drive with no significant hiking required, making it an easy stop to revisit at different times of day. A wide-to-short telephoto range covers most compositions well here. (Silver Bay, New York, United States)
