Skygate
Skygate is a striking stainless steel abstract sculpture installed in 1985 by Roger Barr, positioned at the edge of the San Francisco Bay near the Ferry Building. Its polished geometric form reflects the sky, surrounding architecture, and passing light in ways that shift dramatically depending on your angle and the time of day. Shoot from low and close to exaggerate the sculpture's scale against the bay or city backdrop, or step back to use it as a foreground element with the Bay Bridge or water behind it. Midday light can produce strong reflections in the mirrored surfaces, while golden hour adds warm tones that contrast nicely with the steel. A wide to standard focal length works well here, and you have room to walk around the piece and explore multiple compositions. (San Francisco, California, United States)
