St. Ursen-Kathedrale was built between 1762 and 1773 and is the landmark of the town of Solothurn. The tower and the church have an affinity with Solothurn’s holy number of 11: three sets of 11 imposing steps lead up to the cathedral, the cathedral has 11 altars, the imposing tower stands 11 metres high and 6 metres wide, and there are 11 bells hanging in its belfry. It is worthwhile walking up the 249 steps in the tower, as you are rewarded with unique views of the city and far across the countryside. (Solothurn, Switzerland)
