Statue of General James Wolfe

Statue of General James Wolfe - Photo by Shawn M. Kent1 / 1

Perched at the top of Greenwich Park, this bronze statue of General James Wolfe offers one of the finest panoramic views in all of London, with the Old Royal Naval College, the Thames, and the Canary Wharf skyline stretching out behind it. The classic composition places the statue in the foreground with the full cityscape as a backdrop; shoot from slightly below and to the front to give Wolfe a commanding presence against the skyline. A longer focal length, around 70 to 135mm, helps compress the scene and pull the distant towers closer. Golden hour light in the morning comes in from the east and catches the front of the statue well, while overcast days reduce harsh shadows and keep detail in both the bronze and the city behind. The park is free to enter and the hilltop is a short uphill walk from the main gate on King William Walk. (London, England, United Kingdom)
