Stegastein is a cantilevered viewing platform that juts out 30 meters over the edge of a steep mountainside, sitting 650 meters above Aurlandsfjord in western Norway. The platform's clean wooden and steel frame makes it a subject in itself, and you can use its railing as a leading line drawing the eye out toward the fjord and layered mountain ridges below. Shoot from the back of the platform looking outward to capture both the structure and the sweeping valley, or get low and wide to emphasize the dramatic drop. A wide-angle lens between 16mm and 24mm works best here. Golden hour light in the morning catches the fjord beautifully, while overcast days soften the contrast and bring out the greens of the hillsides. The platform is accessible via a well-maintained road off Route 243, and parking is available a short walk away. (Aurland, Vestland, Norway)
