Kjosfossen is a thundering 93-meter waterfall in western Norway, famous for its hourglass shape as water from Reinunga Lake plunges dramatically into a rocky gorge below. The only way to reach it is aboard the Flåm Railway, one of the steepest train lines in the world, which makes a brief stop specifically for photography. You step off the train and the waterfall is right in front of you, so use the viewing platform to frame the full drop with the surrounding cliffs and forest. A wide angle lens captures the scale well, while a telephoto lets you isolate the narrow waist of the falls. Shoot in overcast light if possible, as bright sun creates harsh contrast against the white water. The mist can coat your lens quickly, so keep a cloth handy and work fast during the short stop.
