Stegastein lookout sits roughly 650 meters above the Aurlandsfjord, offering one of the most dramatic elevated perspectives on any fjord in Norway. The platform extends out over the cliff face, giving you an unobstructed bird's-eye view straight down to the deep blue-green water and the tiny village of Aurland below. Shoot wide, around 16-24mm, to capture the full sweep of the fjord and the layered valley walls stretching into the distance. Early morning is ideal when mist settles in the valley and clouds drift at eye level, adding depth and atmosphere to your frames. Midday light can be flat, but overcast skies actually work well here by softening contrast and bringing out the rich greens. The platform itself can get crowded by late morning, so arriving early gives you clean shots without other visitors in frame. The road up from Aurland is accessible by car and takes about 20 minutes.
