Strynevatnet is a glacially fed lake in the Stryn valley of western Norway, renowned for its striking turquoise-green water color that comes from glacial flour suspended in the melt. The surrounding peaks rise steeply on all sides, giving you dramatic reflections when the surface is calm, typically in early morning before any wind picks up. Shoot from the northern shoreline looking south toward Jostedalsbreen glacier for the most compelling compositions, using the water's color contrast against the grey rock faces as your main subject. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well to capture both the lake foreground and the peaks above. The road along the southern shore offers several pullouts where you can position yourself low to the water's edge. Overcast days can actually enhance the surreal green tones, while clear mornings bring mirror reflections that double the mountain scenery. (Oppstryn, Vestland, Norway)
