Mount Hoven sits high above the village of Loen at the top of the Loen Skylift, one of the steepest cable cars in the world. The gondola climbs from sea level at the fjord's edge to the mountain station in around five minutes, with the gradient reaching up to 60 degrees at its steepest point. The ascent alone is worth having your camera ready. At the top, the views spread out across Nordfjord, the Lodalen valley, Lake Lovatnet, and the surrounding glacier capped peaks. This panorama is ideal for wide lenses and gives you strong foreground-to-background depth. A network of hiking trails spreads out from the summit station, so you can move beyond the viewing platform and find quieter compositions across the plateau. Clear days are ideal, but broken cloud and dramatic skies can work just as well given the scale of the landscape. While you are shooting be aware that conditions can shift quickly and snow is possible even into late spring. The Skylift only runs seasonally and requires a ticket, so check ahead before visiting.
