Tegenungan is a wide, powerful waterfall dropping over dark volcanic rock into a shallow pool surrounded by lush jungle, making it one of the more accessible and photogenic falls in Bali. The best compositions place you at pool level, shooting straight toward the cascade with the dark stone framing the white water on either side; a wide angle lens works well here to capture the full width of the falls and include some of the green vegetation along the edges. You can also wade into the shallows to get closer and use a slow shutter speed to smooth out the water for a silky effect. Come early in the morning to beat the crowds and catch softer, more even light before the midday sun creates harsh shadows. Visit during the dry season, roughly April through September, when the water runs white and clean rather than murky brown after heavy rains. (Ubud, Bali, Indonesia)
