Temple Street View
Temple Street cuts through the heart of Singapore's Chinatown, offering a dense layering of shophouse facades painted in warm ochres, dusty pinks, and mint greens, with ornate details that reward a closer lens as much as a wide one. Walk the length of the street and look for converging lines formed by the rows of five-foot-way covered walkways, which give you strong leading lines drawing the eye deep into the frame. A 24-35mm range works well for capturing the full streetscape, while a 50-85mm lets you isolate decorative details and compress the architecture. Early morning gives you soft, even light and near-empty streets, which is ideal for clean compositions before the crowds arrive. Overcast days are actually useful here since they eliminate harsh shadows in the narrow lane. During Chinese New Year the street fills with red lanterns and decorative lighting, making it one of the most visually rewarding times to visit. (Singapore, Central Region, Singapore)
