Tunnel Mountain

Tunnel Mountain is a rewarding short hike rising above the town of Banff, offering an elevated panorama that takes in the Bow Valley, the town below, and the dramatic ridgeline of Mount Rundle to the southeast. At the summit, position yourself near the rocky ledges on the south and east edges for the most compelling compositions, using the valley and winding Bow River as natural depth in your frame. A wide angle lens works well for sweeping mountain vistas, while a short telephoto lets you compress the layers of peaks behind Banff townsite. Golden hour is ideal here, especially in the morning when warm light rakes across the face of Mount Rundle and the valley fills with soft haze. The trail is well-marked and takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour each way, making it easy to time your arrival for sunrise without an alpine start. (Banff, Alberta, Canada)
