Twin Falls - Middle Falls
Tucked into a lush gulch along Maui's Hana Highway, Middle Falls is one of the most visually rewarding stops in the Twin Falls trail system, where a wide curtain of water drops into a deep, jade-green plunge pool framed by dense tropical vegetation. Position yourself low near the pool's edge to capture the falls with the water in the foreground, or step back to include the surrounding canopy for a sense of scale. A wide angle lens works well here given the tight canyon walls, and a polarizing filter will help cut the glare on the pool and bring out the rich greens. Overcast days are ideal since the forest canopy already creates tricky mixed light, and soft cloud cover evens everything out. Come early in the morning to beat the crowds and have the pool to yourself. The trail down is short but steep and can be muddy, so wear shoes with grip. (Haiku, Maui, Hawaii, United States)
