Tucked along the Hana Highway on Maui's northeastern coast, this 26-acre private botanical garden offers a rare combination of dense tropical foliage, cascading waterfalls, and dramatic ocean overlooks above Keopuka Rock. Work the trails early in the morning when the light filters softly through the jungle canopy and mist still lingers near the water features, giving you that moody, saturated look that works beautifully with a wide angle lens. The coastal overlooks reward a longer focal length for isolating the sea stack against the blue Pacific below. Look for compositions that layer flowering plants in the foreground against the ocean in the background, using the natural color contrast to your advantage. Bring a circular polarizer to cut glare on wet leaves and deepen the greens. The garden charges an entry fee, and weekday mornings are quietest for unobstructed shots on the paths.
