USC Village
USC Village is a large mixed-use development on the University of Southern California campus, built in 2018 with neo-Romanesque architecture that fits seamlessly alongside the historic core of the university. The complex centers on a tall clocktower and a ground-level fountain plaza surrounded by warm brick facades, arched colonnades, and decorative detailing that reward wide and tight compositions alike. Position yourself near the fountain and use the surrounding archways to frame the clocktower, or step back to capture the full symmetry of the plaza with a 24-35mm lens. The clocktower also works well as an isolated subject with a longer focal length. Mid-morning light hits the brick facades with warm tones before the sun climbs too high, and the shaded colonnades stay workable throughout the day. The area is pedestrian-friendly and open to the public; weekday afternoons bring activity that adds life to street-level shots. (Los Angeles, California, United States)
