View of American Falls
Standing on the Canadian side of the Niagara River, this walkway vantage point gives you a clear, unobstructed view of American Falls as it crashes down its wide rocky face just across the border. The broad curtain of water and the mist rising off the base make for a dramatic subject, and you have room to experiment with both wide compositions that take in the full falls and the surrounding gorge, and tighter shots that isolate the rushing water. A polarizing filter helps cut glare and deepen the color of the water, while a longer exposure will smooth the falls into silky streaks. Golden hour light in the morning catches the mist beautifully, and the falls are well lit into midday. The walkway is paved and highly accessible; a wide-angle to short telephoto zoom in the 24-70mm range covers most compositions well. (Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada)
