View of Mt Finlayson

View of Mt Finlayson - Photo by Shawn M. Kent1 / 1

The Niagara Trestle offers an elevated vantage point above the Finlayson Arm inlet, where you can frame Mt Finlayson rising steeply across the water with dense coastal forest filling the foreground. Standing on the old railway ties gives you an unobstructed sightline across the arm, making it ideal for wide compositions that combine the reflective water below, the forested slopes, and the rocky summit above. A wide to mid-range zoom works well here, letting you choose between a sweeping landscape frame or a tighter shot isolating the mountain against the sky. Morning light is best, with soft illumination hitting the east-facing slopes and mist sometimes lingering over the water. Note that the trestle has no railings and no solid walking surface, so wear grippy footwear and move carefully. The trailhead is accessible from the Galloping Goose Regional Trail near Langford.
